Today, March 10th, Yes have announced the imminent release of a new studio album. Entitled mirror to heaven, the new batch of music will arrive on May 19 via InsideOutMusic/Sony Music. As a preview of what’s to come, the group has also released the lead single and music video for “Cut From The Stars.”
Comprised of longtime member Steve Howe (guitar), the lineup also features Geoff Downes (keyboards), Jon Davison (vocals), Billy Sherwood (bass) and Jay Schellen (drums). The band’s new music collection is the continuation of 2021’s. The search and see this group of musicians deliver four numbers that clock in at over eight minutes, plus a cinematic title track that stretches for nearly 14 minutes.
Through a press release, Sherwood commented on the studio process: “There was a lot of material floating around because the band hadn’t done anything in the studio for a long time. The ideas were just copious. The pace of it was fast. As soon as we’re done with The search, and the mix was out, we took a couple of little breaks there to catch our breath. But there was still music flowing on the loop. She was just constantly looking at herself and working herself”.
The bassist continued: “Since we were all at home and in that mode, things started to progress pretty quickly. We go from album to album without really announcing, ‘Hey, we’re working on a second record right now.’ We continue to work on the material. It came about quite naturally and then we refined it as the process went on.”
Pairing alongside today’s LP announcement, Yes also shared the first single and music video for their single “Cut From The Star.” The new number maintains the classic Yes sound and feel, which is further accentuated in the band’s official music video, which can be seen below.
