Today The Wood Brothers released “Line That Pockets”, the second single from their upcoming album, the heart is the hero, which will be released on April 14 via Honey Jar/Thirty Tigers. The song was shared with an accompanying lyric video that furthers the song’s message: “Everybody’s trying to be happy/ Fill your pockets with grace.”

The song, which follows their first contact with the album “Pilgrim”, was written by the three members of The Wood Brothers (Oliver, Chris Wood and Jano Rix) and, like the rest of the LP, was recorded directly in 16-inch format. tracks. tape.

“Like other songs on the heart is the hero, this alludes to our common struggles and the hope that arises from connection and self-awareness. No one escapes the human condition, but the greatest relief can come in the form of helping others who are burdened rather than ourselves,” Chris Wood shared in a press release. “We had these lyrics for a while without a musical home, but then Jano came up with an idea that set the right tone and brought the song to life. My part was influenced by the great Cuban bassists Cachao López and Orlando “Cachaito” López. It’s an influence I don’t normally use with The Wood Brothers, but it worked for the song, so we leaned on it.”

“’Line That Pockets’ started out as a very cheesy, almost tongue-in-cheek folk song, but then Jano, who plays keys and drums at the same time, came up with a piano groove and a slow, heavy backbeat that gave it to the music an ethereal space that somehow made the lyrics more compelling and dreamy,” added Oliver Wood. “Jano’s piano part was ambiguous enough that Chris and I had different interpretations of the harmony. So everyone’s separate visions came together into the finished song. It feels a bit out of character on this record, but the themes of connection, compassion and paying attention fit right in.”
