The New Pornographers have shared their latest track from their upcoming album continue as guest (on sale March 31 via Merge). “Pontius Pilate’s Home Movies” follows previous singles “Really Really Light” and “Angelcover”. Listen to the new one below.
“Lyrically, it is very much a stream-of-consciousness story about the disease of social media and online culture,” AC Newman of New Pornographers said in a statement. “The narrator who only likes art when he changes the subject, lost in reverie, thinking it’s an entrance, and the idea of Pontius Pilate entertaining his friends with home movies of the crucifixion (what else would he be showing? That part is clear, right? ?). It was a product of being stuck at home at a time when online was the only way for many to communicate, and it obviously had its downsides. One of those songs that may seem like a word salad but isn’t, its disjointed nature is very deliberate.”
