Red Hot, a non-profit organization dedicated to AIDS awareness, has announced a new tribute album in honor of Sun Ra. On new tribute album, Muldrow, Irreversible Entanglements, Angel Bat Dawid and Malcolm Jiyane Tree-O reinterpret the music of Sun Ra’s 1980s composition “Nuclear War,” which the jazz luminary made in response to the collapse at Three Mile Island Nuclear. Power station near Philadelphia.
Sun Ra died in 1993 after a series of health problems including stroke, heart failure, and respiratory failure. Since his death, the Sun Ra Arkestra has continued under the leadership of various members, the most recent of whom is veteran Sun Ra alto saxophonist Marshall Allen. The last record of him under Allen’s gaze, living skyIt came out in 2022.
Last year, the three-story building known as the Sun Ra House, which the band’s evolving line-up called home since the 1960s, was officially listed as a historic landmark on the Philadelphia Register of Historic Places.
