Today Sound Mind Live announced that its fifth annual music festival will kick off between Irving Ave and Wyckoff Ave in Bushwick, Brooklyn on Saturday, May 20. The collective, whose goal is to break the stigma surrounding mental health through the power of music, has brought together a rich group of artists, each of whom has a personal history of mental health and are eager to promote a platform that allows people to empower each other.
The free event will kick off at noon and feature performances by Iron & Wine, Langhorne Slim, Hiss Golden Messenger, Kamauu and the Pom Pom Squad. Along with live music, throughout the day there will be DJ sets and dance parties in collaboration with Brooklyn’s House of Yes, as well as Sound Sessions. There will also be holistic mental health programming experiences, including yoga and movement sessions, mindfulness and breath work, and creative activities.
Through the gathering, Sound Mind Live hopes to harness the unparalleled power of live music to connect hearts, moderate the community, and inspire change. Through artists who are open about their mental health, they hope to extend an open hand to the 45% of mental health related issues that go unaddressed.
Notably, Sound Mind Live Music Festival has partnered with New York’s Smorgasburg, which will provide unrivaled food and beverages for the event, which will be streamed live in association with YouTube Health. BetterHelp also partnered with Sound Mind Live to provide one month of free therapy for their combined communities.
