From January 19-22, DJ Logic and his group of talented and eclectic friends held their third residency at the Blue Note Jazz Club in New York City. All three nights saw the pioneering turntable flow through improvised beats, layered by the musical inclinations of DJ Logic’s expert head band and musical guests.
Over the course of his four-night, eight-show residency, DJ Logic was joined by a core band consisting of Robert Sput Searight (Ghost-Note, Toto), Neal Evans (Soulive) and James Genus (snl, Herbie Hancock). Special guests included John Popper (Blues Traveler), Paul Shaffer (David Letterman), avant-garde trumpeters James Carter and Casey Benjamin, the former of whom played with Galactic at the Blue Note Jazz Club last night, guitar virtuoso Nir Felder and Lyrics Born.
“We didn’t do actual songs, just song outlines…we largely made up phrases and even lyrics in real time and all those gentlemen came together in a vibrant…swinging, seething beautiful aspiration to an unseen earthly deity,” said John Race popper.
Notably, DJ Logic has shared that he’s taking a few friends to some special post-Goose night shows in select markets, though details have yet to be announced.
