Legendary Blues Hall of Famer and singer-songwriter Bettye LaVette has signed to Jay-Vee Records. The newly announced partnership comes after the acclaimed musician worked alongside label co-founder Steve Jordan to produce his 2018 and 2020 studio albums.
Prior to LaVette’s decision to join Jay-Vee, the label’s Jordan himself produced the musician’s most recent material, including Things have changed and blackbirds. “Don’t Fall Apart on Me Tonight” earned LaVette nomination for Best Traditional R&B Performance at the Grammys, and the collection as a whole was nominated for Best Americana Album.
In a press release, LaVette commented on her relationship with Jordan and hinted at what the future holds. She said: “Having done two albums with Steve, I’m VERY happy that he wanted to do another record together and put it out on the Jay-Vee label.”
Jordan and Voss issued a joint statement. Simply stating: “We are honored to have Bettye LaVette at Jay-Vee Records and offer her artistic freedom.”
Jay-Vee Records, which is distributed by MRI Entertainment, was founded in collaboration with Jordan and Meegan Voss, and is the home of the Grammy-nominated album. Robert Cray and Hello Rhythm and the critically acclaimed Beat Odyssey 2020by Mix Master Mike along with the music of Jordan and the Voss group The Verbs.
